We live in PA. Hot lunches at my kids' school costs $9 per day, $45/week, and around $200/month depending on how many days are in the month.
How does yours compare?
ETA: can you post your location too?

I don’t buy into the lunch program. I generally send left overs from dinner the night before

Here its by day of the week for a half year at a time. So the approx 15 meals of each day per semester is between $80-150 depending on milchig vs fleshig etc. So I guess if you sign up for every day it comes out to about $1000 a year.
I always let my kids get pizza which is the cheapest option and 1 additional day. So it's about $200 a semester

Our school does the same. The only day we pay for is pizza day since it’s from a pizza store. Beyond that we send leftovers

I don't remember what our school charged last year, either 5.50 or 6, but the lunch program items and labor are very expensive in this economy and we didn't profit at all.
This year we have the whole school on free lunches and we'll see how that goes.

wow! that's a lot.
do most people have to pay or do you get it for free if you are under a certain income?
are you obligated to pay for this or it's optional?
I live where HY lives and I'm pretty sure it was 5.50 last year/

I don't know if there's reduced rates for low income, or how they would determine that. It's privately run lunch program by a local restaurant/caterer. No it's definitely not mandatory! I also wonder what percentage of the students get hot lunches. Price has increased a lot over the past 6 years, from what I remember, it was $5/day when we first started there.

Run by a private caterer. School is not involved but I assume there is some benefit for the school...
Los Angeles
$10 a day. You pay per month but I think you don't have to buy every day.
I never buy. My kids get sandwiches or pasta and cheese for lunch.
No low income or government subsidies. Not that we would qualify- odds are we make slightly too much for any program.

Last year was first year we got our middle schooler hot lunch at TA. It’s $700/year for MS, $650 for elem. HS, 3 meals a day are wrapped up in tuition.

In Israel, 2 children in ganim I'm paying 100 nis a month, for my daughter in school 40 nis a month - her school is reduced from 90 nis as they are considered public school I think is the reasoning.
For hot lunch & fresh fruit and veg and afternoon school. (Kids finish at 4 instead of 1.30).
It's a meaty lunch Sunday - Thursday besides one day which is parve.
Made by an outside company hired by the government and delivered to the schools.
