If I have a simcha in the next half a year in Israel, I should only book elal?
Do other flights reimburse or give a raincheck if they cancel flights due to war etc?

I would only book el al. Although other airlines reimburse you if they dont fly, at that point el al will be very expensive and you will end up having to spend a lot more.

With all the uncertainty at the moment, I would not risk booking flights on another airline. If you're booking for months away then hopefully the prices won't be crazy. My child is in Israel for the summer coming home this week, and B"H is booked on El Al so we didn't have to scramble for a flight. We're going for a simcha in a couple of months and booked the tickets on El Al almost a year ago. A lot of other airlines have already cancelled or postponed flights for the next few months already, so it's a good thing we stuck to El Al.

Book El Al through their website or through a travel agent.
This will give you the least amount of headache in case anything goes wrong.
$1300 non stop from NYC to TLV is a great price.

Also, do you (collective amothers) think prices are high now because of iran threat and they may go lower?

I don't see anything under1200 in December. How do you search for cheap elal tickets?

If it's very important for you to go, then definitely El Al. If being cancelled is an acceptable outcome, then go ahead.

I had a simcha I hoped to attend but could only manage within my budget. I got relatively inexpensive tickets with Lot. They ended up cancelling my flight and I said oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be this time, hopefully next simcha I'll make it, this is the price you pay for living far away from relatives. I couldn't afford El Al, period. At least this way I stood a chance. Months ahead who knows what the situation will be.

El Al is very aware of when people like to travel to Israel, so they raise their prices for Succos and Pesach and Chanukah and yeshiva week. If you go at an off time then they have cheaper tickets or good deals.

This is the travel agent we use:

What happens with the other airlines like delta and united etc if they cannce?
They refund? Give you the price of the ticket as a credit? Does it expire?
