My first year teaching since having a baby. Baby is 1 and goes to a babysitter with 2-3 other kids in her home. Stressing over what will happen if my baby wakes up one day with fever. Or one of the babysitters kids is home with a bug. I would want to keep her home. I work 12:30-4 and my husband is in school so unavailable.
Iyh everyone should be well and healthy, but curious what you do in these scenarios? Call in sick, find a sub and just take the docked pay? I think I have maybe 4 sick days. I just feel like I’m going to use those up before January…

Yes, I take off, look for a sub, lose pay. If baby is the type to sleep in the stroller while you teach, you can bring her with. Mine never were.

There are a couple of people in my neighborhood who are sometimes available to substitute babysit. If the baby is really miserable and needs Mommy then I take the day off, but if he's more or less ok and just not fit to be with other babies (fever but not severe, recent fever less than 24 hours ago, rash, very drippy nose, etc) I call them first and if they're not available I post frantically on the community WhatsApp and sometimes get something like a college student who happens to have the day off, a retired bubby with sympathy, etc. Though there have been times nothing materialized and I just had to stay home again. Unpaid, that's just part of having a kid

Can people never take off from school? What if they get sick? Your dh should be available

He’s in dental school. Not available. That’s just the life.

Cry
Stress
Fret
Worry
And feel guilty whatever I end up doing, whether it's taking off or leaving kids with grandparents....

Then you need grandparents or some other help. A cleaner would work too.
It’s not sustainable otherwise

Lots of people have no choice my spouse is not available for childcare either.
Op I have a dropoff babysitter in my neighborhood that takes sick kids, if my baby is really sick and needs me I take off and stay home no matter what’s going on

Not everyone lives near family… or has a cleaner. (:

I’m going to ask around for a drop off like this for a back up.

Discuss it with the school beforehand. It happens all the time with teachers with young kids. Most schools have a policy. Some have in house permanent subs on payroll. Some want you to find the sub. Some have a compiled list of vetted subs they want you to call.
