My husband is more of black and white, rigid thinker and perfectionist nature type of person. His style of relating to Yiddishkeit and Hashem is through Yirah and in a very exacting sort of way. He is constantly learning Mussar and trying to perfect his middos and striving to become a better person. (HE IS NOT OCD- before you all chime in and start diagnosing him ) This has affected our home in many ways, and our Rav (among other recommendations) has recommended that he drop all mussar and begin to learn chassidus. Does anyone have recommendations for shiurim and seforim in English for him? Thanks in advance.

Most English books are either breslev or chabad based. Is DH comfortable with either of those?

Many people who are not chabad but want the warmth of Chassidus in their life read things like "The practical Tanya" by Rabbi Chaim miller or move towards breslev. The concept of Chasidim and Chassidus started with people who excelled in Yiras Hashem and then chasidus taught them the joy in serving Hashem. Thats in a nutshell.
Another amazing source is Rabbi Gordon AH shiurim on the daily Tanya portion which can be streamed fro Chabad.org or Rabbi Paltiel.

There was a nice article in mishpacha about the new book on Aish Kodesh.
I forgot what it was called.
I bet torahanytime has shiurim on aish kodesh, piaczener rebbe's writing I'm the holocaust.

He should find himself a daily/weekly chavrusa to learn chassidus with.

My husband likes to learn but it does not come easy to him. He always thought that if he pushes himself he will find the joy in it but he does not see it and the more he adds the more intense and serious he is becoming.
He needs to laugh more, chill more, bring more simcha into his avodah

Sounds like he needs to learn less chassidus from a sefer and more find a place to join a farbrengen (this is not only a chabad thing).
