Counter height or table height peninsula?

if this is the only seating other than the dining room table... which would you do?

factors:

the dining room table is not too far away. so a) it might look funny to have two "tables" so close together? but on the other hand: b) if there's a more convenient table so close, will people just go there to eat their bowls of cereal or whatever?

our youngest kid ka"h is 3 (as of now) but I kind of feel like tables should be accessible to children? iy"H one day grandchildren...?

style wise I know that counter height "kitchen tables" are very in, but I am not planning on a very modern style...

my husband grew up in a house with bar stools, and he said they almost never used them except for short conversations with the person cooking--for actual eating it wasn't that pleasant.

I understand that counter height tables can also be useful for general workspace, but I see that my kids are very happy (happier?) cooking on the table.

please share your experiences and thoughts?

Personally I think a table height for sitting is far more functional?

Who willingly likes to sit at a high stool - older people younger people, shorter people - all prefer chairs where it is easier to get in and out of as well as safer to some extent.

Of course the whole phenomena of kitchen islands really depends on the size of the kitchen because in some kitchens where they are squeezed in, they are actually more of a barrier but that is a different issue.

I would hope that one has some amount of counter height "counters" for prepping food - how much does one actually need?

FWIW, I bought what is called a work station sink which has a ledge in which one can fit accessories like cutting boards and drying racks. This really enhanced the functionality of my kitchen when I remodeled as I prep right over the sink which eliminates debris on the counter and any kind of air drying is done on the grid over the sink - fruit or hand washed items.

I wanted a two tiered peninsula. I wanted the seating area lower than the rest of the counter top. My dh convinced me to make the whole counter the same height. So now I dint enjoy sitting there. Because I have ti climb onto the stool. He is over six feet tall. I am five ft. Also the younger grandkids cannot come off easily.
I am trying to find a oic to show you what I want. Just telling you that they are not practical,
