I would like to start lifting weights, I know it's really healthy for your body and metabolism but I have no idea how to start.
I am not fit at at all but I wish I was. I was told weights are better than cardio. I need to make exercising a priority and this seems like a good place to begin.
I cannot afford a gym or trainer. I need to do it at home.

Love love love
Sydney Cumming on YouTube she posts just about everyday and does weighted exercises. This month in particular she has a calendar you could purchase for the order of this months workouts from previous videos.
But she has soooo many. You can start with whatever themed workout on “day 1” and keep on going!!

Also, remember to do warm ups/ stretches before and after, and pay attention to posture, so shoulders back, chest tall, chin parallel to the ground, back not arched over or under, knees not locked, feet hip distance apart, and, most important, core engaged. Start light and slow, pay attention to posture and core, then work up from there! Good luck!
Such a brilliant step for your overall health!!

This is what has been holding me back. How do I know that I'm doing it "right"? I don't want to hurt myself.

Start with Pilates or hire a personal trainer for 1-3 sessions to learn proper form. Then go home and listen to the YouTube instructor

Nourish Move Love (NML) is really great cuz she focuses on all the benefits of strength training besides for aesthetics. She is great at encouraging you to lift heavy.
But if you try her workout and it doesn't vibe well with you - check out Justina Ercole on youtube.
She has reviewed many many strength training youtubers - and hopefully she'll have one that works for you.
Good luck!
