I don't know much about lab gems. Just diamonds. It makes sense they perfected the diamond market and will move on to other gemstones. From what I've heard, they are more dull in color. But sapphires are usually cheaper than diamond so mined is not super expensive. I have a mined sapphire ring that was very reasonable. The same thing in diamond would have cost thousands more.

I'm neutral on pearls. With the right outfit, pearls can look stunning.
But I'd only ever get cultured pearls, not freshwater pearls, and yes, cultured I guess is the equivalent of lab diamonds. (But cultured pearls from what I recall are still less pricy than lab diamonds.)

Lab grown is more dull in color?
Dh very close friend very recently took 2 pieces of jewelry into a very popular nyc jewelry store. He told the jeweler one is lab grown one isn't. He has to figure it out. The jeweler couldn't. He wanted to prove to someone he was having an argument with about lab grown v mined.

I really don't know much about lab grown gems. It's just something I heard in passing. I would need to do more research.

The human eye can’t tell the difference. Only under machines/tools.

Local Jewelers can be very overpriced.
I purchased a lab grown solitaire necklace online that was beautiful and cheaper than anything I could get in person. Same for a lab grown bar necklace. I also got a diamond by the yard bracelet and half tennis bracelet all online and I am happy with these purchases. I would have spent at least 30% more in local stores. I did buy one thing online that I am not super thrilled with and wouldn't have purchased if I'd seen it first but it was relatively inexpensive and I still like it enough to be happy.
I think it depends how picky you are and how standard your jewelry will be. Something standard that can be bought anywhere like a round cut tennis bracelet or a basic eternity band that is not anything unique, can be shopped around for. The reputable online places list all the info such as clarity, cut, carat, color on their site and you can buy with relative confidence.
Something unique and very specialized needs to be done with a Jeweler. Right now I'm saving up for a color gemstone bracelet. I don't want to buy online because I have a vision of what I want and not just a standard look I can find online. When I have a few thousand saved, I will work with a private Jeweler to make something. |

It depends on a lot of factors, like if it’s treated or enhanced. Sapphires can be extremely expensive
