One year ago I moved from lkwd to an OOT community.
I’m getting lots of texts and seeing flyers posted for $20-30 for 10:00-3 for Tisha bag camps or similar.
My girls day camp counselor who’s a 12th grader is offering reg camp hours in reg camp location for $25 for the day for 7 year olds ..
Why is it like this OOT? I also used to have a very very hard time finding babysitter and here I find girls are happy to work for $10-15 an hr..

Less pressure to keep up with the Cohen's maybe? And less 'cohen's' to live up to.

And they can do simpler cheaper with the kids, no pressure to do 'more' like all the other t b'av day camps.

The cost of living is much lower in many places out of town. Adult salaries tend to also be lower than ny area. So its no surprise that out of town kids can charge less for these kinds of jobs too

I think the kids OOT are much less spoilt and much less entitled

I don't think it has to do with the cost of living at all

They don’t overcharge because they don’t have to fund their moncler jackets and aviator nation sweatshirts.

I hate the Lakewood bashing and the reverse snobbery how OOT is so much better.
I was raised OOT, it's very much prevalent. I was raised to believe how much better and superior we were than the "superfluous Brooklyn (in those days) girls"
Guess what?
We were plenty judgemental.

I live in Lakewood.
I got 5 texts this week for Tisha Bav camps.

1-5pm for $20 per child
11-2 $12 per child
1-4:30 $25 per child (the counselors are 2 married women)
10:30-4:30 lunch and snack included. $25

I think it’s more “supply”
Let’s say 10% off parents can pay that higher rate.
If you want to fill up, OOT you may need to be affordable for a larger percentage of families

I have 20 camps posted on my Lakewood chat now they range from cheap, to a little more to expensive. Is all this bashing in the 3 weeks appropriate? Do you think it’s ok to attack all the kids in a huge town because some camps were more than some wanted to pay? When is this going to stop? All these lashon hara threads are 1,000 times worse than expensive camps, and it’s an actual aveira to post these things.

I was raised in lkwd and my ENTIRE family and extended family live there. We left cuz of parnassah and I would eventually come back if I was able to. I’m just pointing out a difference and asking why? And just FYI there’s so backward sheist that goes out OOT 😂

There was zero reason to post Lakewood and spread false information about it. There are plenty cheap camps. In fact more cheap ones than expensive ones. You need to go ask each one forgiveness. This whole thing was in bad taste.

The title? Price gouging????

Everyone is entitled to spend as much or as little as they want. And if some ppl are rich enough to spends $100's on their daycamp, to each their own!
If nobody would pay, they would not be open!
