I placed an order yesterday afternoon and we forgot there was cheese there, only went into the refrigerator this morning.
How can I know if it can still be used?

I would use hard cheese left out for a day.

It's fine. Hard cheese isn't that perishable, which is why it's a popular lunchbox and picnic sandwich item.

Mozzarella is not hard cheese. Was it a block or shredded? I would likely not use it, FWIW.

No. The other posters are wrong, mozzarella is not a hard cheese. It’s semi-soft and should not be left out more than a couple hours

Visually inspect it and smell it. Cheese, even semi-soft, isn't an especially high risk food when it comes to the invisibles.
