Maybe you can afford but when I see people walking around with 2ct or larger Diamond studs, 10 ct bracelets, 5 ct rings I automatically assume it’s lab because I can’t imagine most 30-35 year olds can afford over 100,000 in jewelry. In lab it’s under 30k total

One of the places I inquired about lab diamonds tried persuading me to take a 3-3.5 CT diamond for the center. I didn't want to hear of it. The people who know me, know that I can't afford it. They won't assume it's lab they'll know for sure it's a cz. I'm not buying real jewelry for it to look fake. I have a cz diamond ring now. Whatever I'm buying I want it to loon real.

I want to share my thoughts on lab grown firstly they are a tiny natural diamond taken out the ground and grown in a lab …
In today’s day people are buying what they can afford, most people are not buying jewelry for investments …
The wear and tear is exactly the same as Mined Diamonds ..

Actually in today's world, most people would assume it's lab. Plus most people can tell the difference between mined/lab and cz. The light reflects different and whole thing has a different look and is less sharp.

I would happy to answer any questions people have |
Can you explain the difference between:
Mined
Lab
Cz
Moisonite
Can you explain about lab grown gemstones other than diamond?

Do you think lab grown diamonds are overpriced? Do you think they are going to become so easy to produce that cost will go down substantially in next few years?

The price has definitely gone down from when I started three years ago .. why?
The people who were mining and selling mined diamonds decided if they flood the market with lab people will not be happy it actually was the wrong move and even de beers is saying the future is lab grown ..
What people charge is their option I work by working with the customer with what they can get for their budget it’s a very personal experience…
All the big movie stars are wearing lab their is no comparison at all with mined or lab diamond with cz again

Are you the person that was recommended earlier in this thread?
Or maybe it was on the other lab diamond thread?

I hate to say this. While I'm sure you know your work, and people appreciate your advice, I find it strange. You came on here today and already soliciting business.

De Beers actually is ending their line of lab grown diamonds and has decided to stick with traditional mined diamonds. The price/value of lab grown ones are expected to go down as a result.

Yes, but lab grown will have little to no cache and people who care about these things are not going to buy (no wealthy celebs are going for lab grown btw) and the price of mined diamonds will stay the same. Certainly there will be no resale value for lab grown.

People who care about these things are already not buying lab. Think of it as a brand name. People who think brand name is important won't buy off brand even if it's good quality because they are paying for the status of that name. If I want a good quality leather handbag. I can buy one for a few hundred dollars but it won't say Chanel or LV on it. If I want it to say that, I will need to spend a few thousand at least to have that status symbol. With Jewelry, I can have beautiful quality pieces for a fraction of the price but it won't have the status symbol of being pulled out of the dirt in Botswana.

I'm not buying myself diamonds, whether mined or lab, so for me it'shypothetical, but even if it's quite a bit cheaper it is still outrageously expensive to buy even 1k worth of lab jewelry that has no resale value, imo. That's a huge amount of money to spend on something that has almost no value (other than the gold setting). I'd rather buy a piece for that amount that has no diamond at all, at least the resale value would make sense for the amount of gold that I pay for it.

lets say you buy a diamond tennis bracelet - 7 carat for $8,000. You keep it for 10 years and sell it for $4,000 if even that. Google says the top amount you can get for used tennis bracelets is 50%. You will probably get less but I am going to estimate higher. Your total amount lost is $4,000.
lets say you buy the same bracelet but lab grown. I am currently seeing 7 carat for $2500. You keep it for 10 years and then sell it for the gold lets say $500 or lets say you cant sell it and its worthless.
Which one did you come out ahead? For something that looks exactly the same with the same properties.
Diamonds are not a good investment. buy lab and invest the difference in the stock market.

Right now, neither are good investments. I just read an article in the Wall Street Journal on this. The trend esp for engagement rings is colored gemstones, including colored diamonds, but mostly gems like rubies, sapphires, amythests, etc. The price of white diamonds, natural and lab, has fallen in the past couple of years. I wouldn't count on getting half of what you pay for diamond jewelry back, it would be much less than that.
If diamonds have lost their cachet and are no longer desirable, they won't be considered pretty or trendy so why buy at all? People will stop wearing and the look of diamonds won't be special anymore.
This is because of lab diamonds flooding the market. That's why De Beers is going back to natural diamonds, hoping to rebound. But who knows if that will happen, or when.

ok exactly. Jewelry is not something to buy because you are trying to keep the value or have as an investment. Jewelry is meant to enjoy now and buy and wear what you like. So a lab grown diamond that looks exactly like a mined diamond is not better or worse. Its just cheaper. So personally I see zero value in buying something more expensive.
