Going with family of kids, ages 3 till 16, to Arizona this month, for a few weeks. Staying in Scottsdale and Flagstaff.
Wanted an itinerary of places recommended to visit, taking into consideration the heat.
Thanks

Is there a reason why you chose Arizona ? This is the worst time to go. It can be unbearable.

Was going to say the same. Grand canyon is unbearable in the summer.

Don't go to Scottsdale in the summer. It's not hospitable to humans. It's unbearable there.

It’s 98 degrees at 9. By 11 it’s 106. Doesn’t sound enjoyable to me.

I will never get why people do this. I'm sitting in my bedroom in Phoenix. It's 80 degrees in my house even though my (brand new) a/c is set to 72. I can't walk 10 minutes in this heat without getting a migraine. Your kids can get actual burns from walking around outside without shoes or touching their car seat buckles. It never cools down, not even at night. I mean, you do you, but whyyyyyy?

(Our winters are beautiful!)

It's too hot to do anything outdoors. Especially if your bodies aren't used to the heat. It is genuinely dangerous

Yes! January is probably the best month to come!

Everyone who lives here desperately tries to get OUT during the summer. I will never understand why someone would pay to be here

I'm trying to figure out, what do people do when they go with their (large) families to the grand canyon? What is there to do, besides for stare at the canyon.

parents were arrested in the death of their baby who they brought on a boat in similar climate. This was Lake Havasu in Arizona.

There is no way anyone would willingly be in Arizona during the summer. People stay indoors as much as possible and try to get everything done extremely early.

People escape from Arizona to California. They are called sunbirds as they are the opposite of people who escape cold climates in the winter who are called snow bird.

OP I think we’re all wondering the same thing; why did you choose to go to Arizona in august? There are so many places to go! Why there?

Besides Colorado, where can one go with a family to a vacation place, with minyan and kosher food, without terrible pritzus?

I think people go to Arizona in the summer because they can not possibly fathom what it means to be in an actual desert. It’s worse than a chamsin in Israel. Can be very dangerous. That’s so many of the houses have pools. They are a necessity.
