Vinyl only please....
The smell, the stains etc.. Unless you don't have little kids.
You can clean/wash vinyl so much better.
Carpet is not good for allergies.
As you can see, I'm not a fan of carpeting..

I had carpet and it was the worst. Dont do it. When I removed it the whole smell of my house improved by 1000% percent.

I personally love carpet, I know it's not "in" these days. But I love the warm and cozy feeling.
I don't have any kids with dust allergies or anything and I would just vacuum every other day. I grew up with it.
In my apartment we only had wood/vynal,
whatever it was, in the whole apartment and for some reason I had dust bunnies everywhere.....

I have little kids and honestly I think vinyl would be best. Hubby thinks otherwise cuz it's not as cozy... Trying to figure out what to do!

I happen to like carpet in bedrooms. Cozy and warm on your feet on cold days and nights....
I have a carpet cleaner that I run every so often, to deep clean the carpets. It smells amazing, too, and keeps the carpets fresh. It's amazing how dirty the water gets, which does show that vacuuming is not sufficient to keep carpets clean.

Vinyl. Carpeting stains, attracts and holds dust, dirt and odors, provides a home for bugs (snug as a bug in a rug--how do you think that expression came about?), sneakily hides sharp things like dropped pins and needles or staples, and can't ever be fully cleaned or disinfected. And it's the pits for allergies.

It's a little more flexible as you can move it, but it might be annoying with beds.
I don't like getting out of bed onto a wood floor.
I would get a big rug that goes under the bed and out either side a good few feet.

As an aside, just curios when did it become a thing that everyone stopped using carpet?

You can get a low pile, not shaggy carpet which is easier to clean but is still cozy and soft on the feet.

Thank you all for responding, I really appreciate it!!
I think I'm gonna go ahead with the Vinyl and put a rug either under beds or just at foot of bed, so it's still a little cozy....

I

I would absolutely do vinyl on the stairs as well. When we did work on our house we put floor everywhere but the contractor refuses to touch the stairs and to bring in a special guy just to floor the stairs cost a fortune so I just carpeted them. They look fine, though floor would
Be nicer. I was recently on an errand and I came home to paint all over my house. My seven year old followed the rules and painted on the deck outside but she clearly had to use the bathroom and downstairs one was occupied because there was a trail of paint from the back door to the upstairs bathroom. It wasn’t a big deal to clean all the floors but yea if you look closely you will see purple and blue paint on my gray carpeted stairs…..
