Hi! I’m feeling stuck in the baby naming process. I’m due any day now, and I feel like the three options we’re debating between are not quite it. We like names that are slightly uncommon without being unheard of.

I like average or short names that sound phonetically beautiful (I have tz in my name and my husband has ch, but it was difficult for us growing up so we want to avoid that).

Almost all of the names I love are taken already by parents, siblings, and nephews, and my husband doesn’t want to use any of those names (more than 20 on the black list).

One name we both like is nearly identical to one of our daughter’s names, so we don’t want to use that either (think Yehuda/Yehudis).

Any ideas where else to look for ideas? We already checked the back of the ArtScroll with the list of names in tanach, and don’t feel much closer to solving this. My husband feels confident that we’ll know when we see the baby, but I’d like to feel like I have some great options and will decide when we see him vs feeling totally lost.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the parsha around your due date. I agree with your husband once the baby comes out everything changes

I could've written this exact post. I have 1 son and love his name, but cannot think of anything that feels right for the new baby. Some names we like are Naftali, Ayal, and Oren, but we're also struggling with names being taken by close relatives. Will be following this thread Very Happy

Funny how I thought about Gabriel immediately too.
Not so short though.
I would add Yair.

Between Carpools has a great list of names (both for boys and for girls). Might be nice to just go through to see if anything stands out to you!

Are you sure you can't name the same name as another relative?

If you like Oren, maybe Ilan.

Ari fits in with Naftali and Ayal
