hey everyone,

I'm wondering whats the going rate for renting a gown from someone who is sewing up for herself for a wedding that's a week earlier.

Can anyone advise what they think its normal?

Thanks !

if she is taking the gown back, then about a third of her total cost
so if the gown is $1200, then $400 to rent.

Is this the rate everywhere?

Paying a quarter of what she pays is considered little?

Anyone thinks a third is a lot to pay?

Yes, renting is very expensive. People are trying to recoup their expenses, figuring they only wore it once also and who knows if they will rent again.

They will get whatever they can. You can always offer less and see what they say.

I borrowed a gown from a gemach, and it cost me $130. (With cleaning) and it was not a “high end” gown. I could have bought something on clearance for not much more.

To rent a wedding gown from Miri is 5K. And you are not the first wearer!

Look on FB tznius gown swap or Instagowns and you will get a good idea.

No, most people charge a third to half of what it costed them to sew up.
It's not just the price it costed them, it was coming up with the design, sourcing the fabric and going for all the fittings.
They want their efforts covered so it is worth it for them to rent it out.
If you go to any gown rentals, the prices won't be any cheaper then renting privately.

I have used “rent the runway” they offer two sizes of same gown, and it can range from 40 - 200 (if you are going to get a more expensive rental it’s worth do to a 1 month plan for abt 144 and rent 5-10 pieces for the month. You can’t adjust them, but you can find a size that fits you. I had a great experience with them. Personally I would not pay 400 for a rental. In that case I’d rather buy a used gown in excellent condition at “therealreal” and keep it. I’ve bought brand gowns for half that.

Why don’t you offer a price that’s worth it for you, don’t forget about cleaning, and see if she accepts that.
