Has anyone been following this story? Woman in Chicago was killed by a police officer after holding up a pot of hot soup and not putting it down.

After watching the bodycam, I don't see any justification for the shooting. But I'm wondering if there is another side of the story that I am missing.

I don't think there is justification. The cop is facing life in prison.

As usual, the media and certain civil rights lawyers leave out half the story. Still a tragedy all around, but don't be too quick to judge guilty without all the facts or knowledge of the law...

REAL LAWYER: The Legal TRUTH of the SONYA MASSEY CASE

I'll note that this lawyer, Andrew Branca does many of these case analysis videos. He does not always come to the "it was self defense" conclusion, so it's interesting to understand the logic when he does.

Thank you for posting this. I don't see his proofs as absolute, especially with the images he shows, but it definitely gives more perspective about the whole thing. (And proves that it's not 100% evident that he is guilty.)

I finished watching this video, banged the gavel, and loudly declared “case dismissed!!”
It’s dangerous to be a white law enforcement agent these days folks. You may end up on a mug shot for doin yo job.

On second thought, they really really could’ve backed up, away from the water.

Now you got me going down this rabbit hole...

Here's Nate the Lawyer's take. He looks at the footage from both body cameras and also shows more of the footage.

NEW Body Cam Shows Woman Throwing Boiling Water AFTER Cops Threaten To Shoot Her.

I'll note that Mr. The Lawyer (iykyk) tends to skew left in his politics (although he does approach each situation with an ostensibly open mind and is willing to consider new facts as they are presented). He also doesn't necessarily always reach the same conclusions as Mr. Branca when presented with the same pieces of evidence.

So glad you asked! Mr. Branca got grief for his original video so he breaks it down further and addresses all his angry viewers' questions. He goes into detail about why they didn't (have to) back up towards the end of the video

She called 911 because she thought she heard someone outside the house. Cops said they didn't find anything. She said thank you. Why were they in the house?

OK. I think there was something suspicious about the damage to the car on her property and her behavior seemed off (not criminal, just off. Like they asked her her last name and she had to think) . The interaction inside the house was that they needed her info for their report... It doesn't look like she was upset they were in the house during the beginning of them being there and at no point did she ask them to leave (even after she called the wrath of J on them and threw the pot of scalding water)

The video I posted today covers when they were already in the house. I think I saw a different one that explains why they were in the apartment.

It’s possible he switched to member only when it became a hot topic. Possibly after you watched it.

OK, here's the second "Nate the Lawyer" video on the tragic shooting. I'm not a member and I can watch it... He goes through both body camera footage. He's not as charitable to the cop as Mr. Branca is...

I don’t think there’s any excuse for shooting.
You step back from the hot water, you run around behind her and handcuff her.
You step back, you tase her. She didn’t have a weapon (gun or knife) she had hot water.

Did you watch the breakdown of the law? There's a reason we have laws and not emotions... But if you want emotions, she was in a kitchen which presumably had knives...
