Tzemach Dovid Shraga Yair
and
Dovid Moshe Yisroel Meir

what a mouthful.

It should be against the law to do that to a child. Can you imagine when they read her ketuba under the chuppah?
It should be mandatory for parents to go through some kind of screening board before naming a child even though less than one out of a thousand would do such a thing.

Chasidim usually ask the rebbe

I know. It's a real shame as this preivilige was specifically given to parents.

Anon for this because I've told friends IRL. I SERIOUSLY considered naming my baby Sar Shalom even though it's not our minhag/mesorah at all. Felt a very strong pull to the name Shalom in my 9th month, named him Shalom Dov Ber in the end.

Also, my friends husband is friends with the long-shalom-name guy.

All my kids have 2 names, a few have three. Hope this helps your question.

Whose minhag is it to name sar shalom?

Harav Sar Shalom Sharabi was from Yemen, and there was also the first Belzer Rebbe the Sar Shalom. We are not teimani or belzers.

We're Chassidish,
We usually decide on a name or 2 ,then have our Rebbe tell us which one / give a Bracha on the name.
So it still stays pretty much the parents' choice.
Most Chassidim, who I know of, at least, do it this way
I have actually stayed in Beit Hachlama with a Chassidish, maybe Yerushalmi type woman, who had no idea what her baby's name would be, on Shabbos. She called her dh on M"S to find out what their Rebbe suggested, so I guess this exists too.

The belzer rebbe's name wasn't sar shalom. That was how he was referred to.
Just like the satmar rav's name wasn't divrei yoel.

A friend of a friend unfortunately was very sick for years so for each hospitalization he was given an additional name. It got to a point that as per the friend, when he was called up for an aliyah it took quite a long time... like a dozen names or maybe more.
