Soak in a bucket as needed.

How big of a bucket does it have to be?

My bucket is 2.5 gallon. I can only soak one adult size garment at a time for the soak to work.

If you have a top-loader, let the machine fill and then shut it off for as long as you wish to soak. This will not work with a front-loader.
