I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and so I want to check in to see if my fears are realistic. When I walk around the lake by myself I get worried that parts of it are obscured from view and if there is one person walking in front or behind me, especially male and nobody else in view that I can be harmed. There are always stories of ppl getting killed or being taken advantage of while going for their daily walk. I feel so tense and nervous that I only go with someone or if I see 5-10 ppl there in feel safer. So I just wanted to know how realistic my fears are.

I'm with you. I wouldn't go nor would I allow my kids to go there alone either.

I would think that you make sense, not just there, but anywhere where there's not a clear view and it's devoid of people, and I don't have g a d.

It is always possible for things to happen in any isolated place.
I live near Willow Tree Park for 30 years and I have never heard of any incident there.
It is not a Makom Sakana and is surrounded by mostly frum homes.
As an anxiety therapist I teach my clients to live life according to 'Most Likely" not 'Possibly'

So you would walk there alone when it's deserted?

I agree with you OP. I wouldn’t go walking somewhere deserted. I live near Children’s Park in Chestnut Ridge. There are walking paths through the park and through wooded areas. I only walk there when it’s significantly busy.

I don't have anxiety and I wouldn't walk alone there. I've been there many times and walked with friends, but not solo. Not in any park. I really don't think in this situation the feeling is caused by an Anxiety diagnosis - sounds like common sense and self-preservation kicking in.

Agreed.

Also a therapist if that makes a difference. I think now walking in isolated parks alone is common sense. If I do walk alone I text someone before and after.

I wouldn’t walk in isolated places alone it’s not safe. You should always be in public view or in an area that has other people.

Agreed. I live there too. Im even cautious while taking my kids to the playground in children’s park when it’s not busy. It’s isolated in the back of the park and I don’t feel safe there when it’s not busy

I would go by day but not at night.
Also if I don't feel safe, I call DH and have him on the phone with me until I get out to a more public place. Sometimes, if he doens't pick up the phone, I pretend to speak to someone, assuming that it'll serve as a deterrent.

I wouldn't walk in a very deserted area without other people present. But I don't think of Willow Tree Park as very deserted. It's a very open type of place no? (disclaimer, haven't been there in a while, but just picturing it in my mind.) I don't think the hidden areas are a very big distance, and there are surrounding homes....not at all like other places where you hear of incidents.

Lots of trees that obscure your view.

As an anxious person I really appreciate your last line. I live life according to "possibly" and get annoyed when people are chilled and live according to "most likely". I know it's my anxiety and it's a weakness, I just like the way you phrased it.

My friend and I were almost attacked by a crazy antisemitic man who chased us through on of the parks in Rockland County shouting antisemitic stuff. (We got away.) We called the police, and here's the point: The police told us that all parks attract creeps and crazies, they're drawn to parks. I would suggest that includes the park you mentioned.

I am very familiar with the park you on Willow Tree, and I wouldn't walk that path alone. There are parts where that path is quite far from the more public area. That's just me.
