2 part question:
1. Friday night: what do you do about the children who go to sleep before Shabbos starts or slightly after?
2. Shabbos day: how do you keep them entertained during long meals?

I hire or take my kids to a sitter for both meals.

Friends, neighbors, family members who are not attending but live in the area.

If it’s where I live it’s much easier, I hire my cleaning lady to babysit Friday night and get neighbors to help Shabbos day if I want to be in shul and bring toys to the hall for entertainment during the meals or they just run around with cousins depending on who’s there.
If it’s away from home then the kids just stay up late and depending how late it is I might leave the Friday night seudah early to go back to where we’re staying to put them to sleep and stay with them. Or sometimes I send them to family from the side not making the simcha for Shabbos.
