I have a new-style HE Whirlpool top loader with agitator. I had heard that the new machines are stingy with water, and this one is truly awful. I literally examine each garment as I remove from the washer; many are still stained or dirty. I have had to rewash so so many times.
I'm so frustrated! Can anyone relate?

Call the company. There might be a setting that saves water that you can turn off.

I've heard it from others too.
New machines have do everything except they don't wash your clothes clean.

I recently was gifted a GE commercial quality washer. The drum is so large I was so excited because I wanted one that I could fit a quilt cover in like my old whirlpool. This is terrible. without anything in it the water doesnt even get half way and I am always pushing the clothing down into the water or it wont get wet and I am not over filling it.
I need to do 2 washes for my one that I did with my old machine.
Im very unhappy with it.

Yup, I repaired my old washing machine rather than get a new one for a long time at the advice of my appliance repairman, who assured me it was worth it....until it died and I got a new one. I liked my old machine much better.....
It's the government regulating our laundry washing habits.

If you get a new showerhead (like I did last year) the power will be weaker too, but there's a way around that - a relative of mine in the plumbing industry showed me how to remove a valve that slows the water release, and now we have a decent shower BH.

There might be a valve you can remove to let more water in. We had in issue with water coming into the house and the guy from the town water department told us to just remove the whole valve that restricts the flow. Seems the valves are on everything.

Does your he machine have options for soil level? That’s how much clothing is in the wash. The smaller the soil level the less water and shorter the wash cycle.
If set to low try first medium and if that doesn’t help then try high, which is a full washer.

The guy at the appliance store told me to throw in some weighted tennis balls. It fools the sensor into "thinking" there's more clothes.
Since I have a sink right next to the machine, I spray water to wet the clothes. this way it feels heavy.
I also always use the bulky setting with deep fill. Unless I know it's a small load.
