I've always been curious if doctors, nurses, therapists etc. answer questions and give info/advice related to their field on imamother.

I’ve seen people say I’m a doctor/ therapist. They say I’m not instead of an in person doctor or therapist but I suggest you pursue this.

I don't give real advice because you just never know what the real story is from a few anonymous paragraphs. What I WILL do is share what I think is useful to look out for if someone is looking for a [my profession]. The other time I will chime in is when someone comes on here complaining about a difficult/upsetting experience with a [my profession]. I will share the scope of what is considered normal/reasonable, what is very much not normal or reasonable in the given situation, and certain challenges that are in my field that are the reason that a certain unpopular protocol is actually standard.

I am a lawyer, and I do not give legal advice here, so I answered another professional and don't.

But, when it comes up, I do sometimes weigh in on questions about law school admissions, law school, legal careers, work-life balance in the legal profession. I don't think of it as advice as much as just sharing my experiences.

I'm a nurse. I do sometimes give advice, but normally only in clear cut situations. There's so much context that is vital to understanding the situation but is almost impossible to give over when people are concerned about defending their privacy at all costs. To give accurate medical advice I need a full understanding of the situation, not the half truths you normally get here.

Apart from which, people often come here to be reassured that nothing is wrong, or that everything will magically clear up if they drink olive leaf tea, or whatever natural remedy appeals to them. (And that their doctors are only in it for the money.) A lot of the time they don't really want medical advice.

I'm a therapist. I frequently give advice, but the type of advice I would give a friend. It's informed by my professional knowledge but it's not a professional opinion.

A handful of times I have started a post with, I'm a therapist and giving advice. That's usually when the situation is more critical. For example, if I'm calling out someone who needs professional intervention immediately.

Dh is in kashrus. I never ask him about things posted on here. It's one of those things that you must ask your lor and not rely on anonymous ladies on the internet.

I'm a psychologist, mostly on the research side of the profession. I occasionally give advice but try to encourage people to seek out advice from their own professionals because nobody here knows your history. Like the therapist above, I just give the same advice I'd give a friend. In general you shouldn't get medical advice from the internet.

I'm a chemist. Sometimes I'll comment on why things happened or how to prevent it.
(Like an odor from something or a dye fading quickly)
But unlike a doctor or nurse, I can't imagine there would be too big ramifications if I was misconstrued. I don't like to take reponsibility that way.
