I didn't say my bank statements got me declined. I'm just nervous about showing them. Income is very low right now and if I have to pay for food also it'll be very hard. Don't want to pay for food from savings.

I think if you have savings in bank then you're not eligible for food stamps.

In Maryland you’re allowed to have some savings.
From their website:
Who is eligible for Maryland Food Supplement Program?
To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Maryland and meet one of the following requirements:

You have a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or
You have a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with one of the following:

A person with a disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself).
In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

It depends what they consider assets. A house and a car is an asset but I think cash in the bank or savings makes you ineligible.

This is not the snap site. Go to snap.
As a rule if it not a .gov, it’s not the site you want.

Did you read what the site says? It specifically says money in the bank is not look at for determining eligibility.

In NJ this is not the case. And since snap guidelines are federal I assume it’s not the case anywhere else either.

OP I give in my bank statements every year in NJ. For every account that I have including savings. They just want to see all the money you have coming in. As long as you’re not adding to your savings I wouldn’t worry about the savings you already have. I’ve bh never had an issue.

When Obama was president, they stopped taking assets into account to determine food stamp benefits.

I doubt it
They might be looking for discrepancies in reported income vs what is being put into the bank...I don't know.

I have never heard of bank statements needed.

SNAP TAKES INCOME INTO ACCOUNT, NOT ASSETS!!!

Do you have self employment income?
I have had bank statements asked for in those circumstances.

Idk where you are located but in NYc savings don’t count. I had $300k in savings but no income and got approved no problem.

How do you take food stamps with 300k in savings?! Can you buy me a steak?! I’m a hard working middle class tax paying citizen whose eligible for nada!

The last 2 years we qualified for food stamps but I don't remember showing bank statements. I'm nervous by showing bank statements I won't get reapproved. Any way to go about this?

They usually wont ask you for it if you have a job/income.
If they ask you for it and you dont have a job there is a chance they can look through your bank statements and count any zelles or incoming money toward income. It happened to me and I got a lot less....
