My kids always borrow the latest books that come out. It's amazing because they are all big readers. I have two problems. First I have to find sometimes a younger sibling goes searching for a specific book that an older siblings borrowed a few years ago. Also whenever rmy kids have friends over they complain we have nothing to read. We do get some magazines. I don't subscribe and not everyone enjoys them.
I find some of today books not well written ,uneducational, low level book. I want to buy a few "classics" to keep in the house. I'm looking for ideas. I will start with a light of greytower I had ever one of my kid ls wanting to read it I'm looking for more ideas. Looking for books that work with boys and girls. It could be separate books. Im lookong for books on different leves so pleas recommend all that you could think of amd twll me which age it would work well for.The main qualification I'm looking for is very well written books. With good storyline to be family classics.
Thanks

Ones I don’t recommend: yellow fever, holes, lord of the flies

I mean certain books become well known, everyone recomends because they are written well with a great messages that's not thrown in your face. My kids tend to read books one time. But their are some books that all my kids wanted to read because it is so well written.
My example a light in greytower has all my kids reading it. Its suspenseful, it uses good vocabulary, very descriptive, good lesson on emuna and bitichon my kids get emotional over the characters they love it.
Looking for more examples for that ages and for older ages as well.

I still love "All of a Kind Family." There were very few fictional Jewish books I liked growing up.

Which ones, out of curiosity?
All of the ones I posted I consider classics. Some are better for older ages, some for younger. But these get reread regularly.
I hear people recommend also A Daughter of Two Mothers (I found it captivating, but not really rereadable).
The Khazar series also comes highly recommended. (I didn't love it, but can see why.)
Sun Inside Rain
All For the Boss
Amen Allowed
The Four Seasons of Golda Mirel
The Cohens of Tzfat
The Lost Children of Tarshish
The Unanswered Cry

I loved The Midrash Says, and The Little Midrash says though. I read those over and over again.

Thank you. Yes some on your list. Is very good. Most on your list are published long ago. I think using the word classic was the wrong word. Do you know any well written books written more recently? I'm going to test out the avner series on my son. I'm going to find out if
My son read the avner gold series and if he liked it. I think those should be up his ally

Yes they are good. But we have used it as reference. Not the kind of books I'm referring too.
I'm looking for page-turning books. Books with 3d characters. That you could see there personality struggle and emotions. Books that are not too obvious with details that don't make sense to the plot. Books for older kids that are not written in overly simple language. But language that kids 12-16 could understand.

Thanks. Please keep listing. Blackout was a bit much someone that was suppose to be a trustworthy person was a terrible example. It's too of a confusing message.
Some of these other book are definitely books that I've had multiple kids read. But not a keeper.
