It's easier? You don't need a mixer?
Dinner Done and Between Carpools have some "no mixer" recipes, and they are delicious. Highly recommend.

It's an amazing cake and takes me literally five minutes from start to finish. In a bowl, no mixer.
The cake I make is amazing and not a flop at all.

Light not dense. Not a brownie.

I don't think I've ever used a mixer for a cake. If you want sponge or chiffon cake texture, yeah you need to mix the eggs. But there are so many delicious other types of cakes that just need a good mixing with a wooden spoon or whisk and they come out delicious.

My recipe without a mixer doesn’t even use a bowl! You mix all the ingredients directly in the pan!
(I’m probably the master of shortcuts)

so those of you who dont use a mixer do you beat very well by hand or literally just mix to combine?

Literally any cake other than chiffon, angel food, sponge cakes that require whipping the eggs separately.
In general, it's not good to over-mix cakes. It can cause excess gluten formation and remove air from the cake, which makes it tougher and denser.
Once wet ingredients are combined with flour, I mix only minimally until combined.

The liquid ingredients I mix more vigorously. Once flour is added, mix just to combine.
