My cousin is making a Bar Mitzvah for her son- it will be a luncheon on shabbos after services. In a conservative synagogue, which, besides being conservative is not anywhere near anything within walking distance. My parents discussed with her the fact that if she makes it only on Shabbos the orthodox family members will not be able to come. Nonetheless, she is making it only on Shabbos.
THis brings me to my question... her family of four came to my sons barmitzvah, and gave $100. How much do I need to spend on her son (who only thinks of the barmitzvah as a party and gifts) when we are not attending? I dont mean to be cheap, but with all the other things we need to spend on...

hmm its a tough call. I would just take the high road and give $100, even though you are not attending.
