Your poll isn't a yes or no question.
If you are nervous about SIDS and follow the recommendations, then you never put loose blankets in the crib with a baby under 1. No toys or pillows either.
I did wearable blankets with mine.

I got the Burt's Bees sleep sack based on this site's recommendations and it's super soft and cozy
For a newborn there are sleep sacks with built in swaddles (my hospital sent us home with one!)

I use these for my 21 month old. Plush/polyester ones get very sweaty. I stick to cotton
