I am applying for my child’s social security number, we didn’t apply at birth because we didn’t have a name.
On the website it says that applicants over 12 need to come down to the office in person even if their parent will sign for them.
So it seems my baby doesn’t need to come with me.
Can anyone confirm this?

I'd believe them. They have no interest in crying babies and little kids running all over the place.

You don't have to take the baby.

One of my kids' SS cards got delayed because her birth certificate got delayed (thanks, COVID). When I went to apply for her card, I brought a different (newer) baby with me. There were several babies there with parents.

Child does not need to be present. They requested items below:
- Baby's original birth certificate
- Baby's insurance card (must include DOB)
- One present parent with their ID

If it says child doesn't need to be there, child doesn't need to be there. Does that answer your question?
