Shabbos Coats

What do you think about kids and Shabbos coats?
Too expensive to wear only once a week and then they outgrow it! A waste of money, even if I had it!

I think they're beautiful and l'kavod Shabbos but I can't afford them!

I buy them or would buy them for both boys and girls.

I'm concerned that by buying them, those who can't afford it will feel bad.

What do you think of kids and Shabbos coats? I don't know if my options covered all possibilities, probably not!

You can vote for more than one, if more than one applies to you.

Yep Thats me Exclamation and I buy a cute one so truthfully might be too nice for weekday, but shabbos will do. U see where we live it's ostentatious to go with two coats whereas in boro park it is not. So we go with the minhag hamokom Very Happy and which happens to work well with out budget too Wink

you moms make me feel like my kids are deprived!!!!!! (between 16 outfits per kid in a previous post - lol ) and shabbos coats.
Once my kids get older, I will get them coat l'koved shabbos. But when they're young they manage very well with the coat they wear in the weekday..
My kids are happy with what they have BH, and I'm not one to care what the neighbor next door wears.

motek- you forgot-"as long as they are hand-me-downs or gifts". cuz that is the only way I can afford shabbos coats. they are nice, but my kids just pull out the easiest coat to reach rather than the nicer one for shabbos. or they fight to wear the shabbos coat during the week.
so, if we have one fine, if not- im not buying them one till they are ready to date.

I'm wondering how often do you do laundry and do you buy your childrens clothes based on that fact? I basically do it abou every 2 weeks so I try to but 16 outfits, for each child

here's the link!!

uhhh, freilich, by the time kids are about 5 yrs old they want to choose their own clothing. and they have their own taste way too early in life for most parents to accept. I have no problem w/ my kids choosing their own coats when the time is right. as it is, I dont get to choose any style when I use hand me downs or buy from consignment shops, or even when grandparents buy (or sew) them a coat.

As a child I always had a Shabbos coat, but it wasn't as cold as where I live now. Now I feel, what's the point of the kids' down jackets, if not for their half-hour tramp each way in the snow and ice to and from Shul? An elegant wool coat will be less comfortable and won't give the same protection.[/I]

My boys get shabbos coats when they start going to shul on Shabbos.
My girls get shabbos coats when they are 8-10 yrs old.
Shabbos coats can always be passed down to other kids since they don't get worn out so fast. I hav eboys shabbos coats (that are being passed around in the family) that are about 12-15 yrs old. At least the boys styles don't really change much.

true motek- but that works at any age- until they are ready to pay for the clothing themselves.
I was just responding to freilichs comment on the kids wanting to choose their own clothing when they are old enuf to date.

I don't have a shabbos coat myself, so I'm definitely not buying one for kids.
