Bit of a funny question. My dh is very short as well as overweight (5'1"). I want to buy him a zip up hoodie that fits him... usually the sleeves and length are very long. If he wears a men's XL, would a women's petite XXL work? Anything to be aware of in terms of fit, like do you think it will be cut differently than a men's sweater?

If it's women's it will be cut for a woman. There are unisex hoodies.

I happen to think it’s a very smart idea to buy women’s.
reg women’s sizes might work better
than petite.

Yes but those are essentially men's sizing.

Thanks! Would you say women's XXL should work?

Thanks this is helpful!
Sounds similar to my dh height and weight.
What's your reason for buying men's hoodies? Are they a better fit or is it just that they're cheaper/ easier to find?

I like the relaxed fit better, and it’s easier to find. In department stores I can just browse the regular men’s section instead of going up to the fourth floor to a tiny women’s plus size section. I buy men’s sweaters for the fall/winter all the time. Obviously this doesn’t work for summer clothes or skirts.

Got it, thank you.
I think I'll try getting a women's 2X sweatshirt and see how it fits and if he likes it.
