We need a new minivan
Last car (sedan) we bought was before Covid and we had amazing interest rate and our price per month was so so affordable $250, but even that we struggled to pay.
Now we need a new minivan. Want someone thing that is going to last forever but the prices are insane now and the rate is so much higher.
We only want odyssey or sienna because they are known to be very reliable.
However they are way out of our price range
Anything we buy we’re gonna need to finance.we don’t want something that’s gonna need repairs next year.
What should we do?
Looking at a 2018 odyssey with 109k. It’s 20,000. My mouth is hanging open. No way we can afford that payment. But it’s the only thing that even remotely makes sense. It was very very well maintained and just had timing belt fixed and new tires
Is it worth buying that for 20k?

We just bought a 2019 odyssey with 45K for $27K. Assuming that it’s in drivable condition that price sounds reasonable.

But 45k miles is very different than 109k

No advice but I could have written your post almost exactly.
No way we can afford a minivan. But we need one...

I was saying from a mileage to price ratio it sounds really reasonable. Otherwise we were looking into a 2016 odyssey with 65K miles for 20K. Overall price sounds right

But is it worth it to put 20k into a minivan with 109k miles?
Either way we can’t pay either $600 a month or $750 a month for a more expensive one

Right but what I’m saying is I can’t afford that.

OP, the car you're looking at seems well-priced. I would get it if you're planning to use it for neighborhood use or a short commute. I wouldn't buy it if I were planning to commute 2-3 hours a day in it.

We plan to use it till it’s death. Both local and long trips

My nephew bought a mini van a couple years ago. He found new was not that much more than used and got a hybrid sienna, so he saves a ton on gas.
Also, some places will let you finance 6 or 7 years. Long term it's more money but month to month is more manageable.

Our credit is not the best so we are not so flexible in terms of what we can get. Even so a new sienna is 45/50k
We are looking at 35k as even being unaffordable

As long as you're not taking long trips daily, I would buy it.

I would NOT buy it. After 100k miles cars start falling apart.
Try and find an older model with less miles. The year doesn't matter. The miles definitely matter.

We bought a Sienna with 107,000 miles .
Drove it for ten years then sold it as we no longer needed a minivan.
