agreed.
honestly the fact that some of these songs wouldnt fly today is more of a reflection on how uppity and pc today's society has become; back then they knew how to take a joke.
his shteeble hoppers albums will forever be iconic.

This is the first couple of verses

Peel one more potato for the kugel
Wash my Tzitzis and hang them out to dry
Dust my Shas and bake some Shabbos challahs
Clean the house and then prepare my tie, come on Yentel, you can
Wash the floor, then fill the tub with water
Cook the fish, then bring me a cup of tea
So, peel one more potato for the kugel, schnell,
Then come and tell me why you’re leavin’ me.

Well, don’t I bless your children every Shabbos
Don’t I warn you when you’re gettin’ fat
Ain’t I gonna take you with me to Israel someday
Well, a man can’t treat his wife much better than that, come on, Yentel
Don’t I always say hello to your mother
And don’t I bring you flowers once a year
You should be thankful, my dear wife, for this warm and happy life
So why do you keep moaning, vei is mir.

like im a passionate feminist but this made me cackle.

Savta simcha is more than a little strange.
I've been reading it to one of my kids and am noticing so many things I didn't think about back when I was a kid...
SS and UN living on different floors of the same house (is that even muttar???) With tehila and ezra...
She goes two wintergreen city, to kever rochel, etc. and strikes up conversation with kids who don't know her from Adam, and then they follow her places....

Every adult should listen to “it’s an upside down world” brilliant song. Real lesson.

For all the difference it makes, in real life he's married and has 4 daughters, just sayin...
And how could he have integrated women in his songs without half the people getting huffed up about the lack of tznius in that?

Lol I know, actually grew up near him. But we're talking about his character here, not the actual Yossi Toiv.

Agree with your last point. People would find something to complain about no matter what.

Im not sure I agree. I think avoiding talk of potching or having unrelated adults and kids in bed together was a good thing. Why are you defending these?

Are you for seriously serious? They're so obviously playing a game! They're not sleeping together!

And all his threats are made in good humor. They tease each other and it goes back and forth. My kids think it's hilarious and I promise, none of them has ever started teasing their rebbi or parent after listening to these tapes. They can actually separate the fictious Tuki from a real-life human.

Go listen to all his tapes another time. I think something went over your head.

If you think it's bad that he threatens to potch them, just listen to the kids' stories nowadays that are all about bombs etc.

I remember asking my mother how Tuki was allowed to do something and she said- he's an alien, they have different rules! LOL

Also, most of Country Yossi's songs are funny satires of non-Jewish songs and are even funnier if you know the original. My father used to explain some of the jokes to us - they were based on knowing the original song.

He is iconic - who remembers the chulent song? "Drop it on the Arabs they'll be gone in a day!"

The Rebbi song always makes me cry. I read that he had Rav Shlomo Freifeld zt"l in mind when he wrote it.

A lot of children's story tropes make no sense and are based on things that are harmful for children in real life. Fictional parents in children's stories are often absent or neglectful. Children are chosen to save the world, or to embark on secret missions, or to go on magical adventures, and they cannot tell an adult, even if there are adult characters they should be able to tell. These things are necessary because if the kids in the book could ask an adult for help, the problem would no longer be their responsibility, and the plot couldn't continue.

People today take things too seriously. Country
Yossi is brilliant in his way of reflecting the ups and downs of life back to us, allowing us to see ourselves more clearly and humorously - which made us laugh and laugh and sometimes cry.

We were all potched as kids, we all felt the post Holocaust vibes as kids and we all had somewhat hilarious family lives. This is what is reflected in his songs.

Middos Man didn’t creep me out until the time when he climbs up to talk to a little girl through her bedroom window Surprised

It doesnt matter. The bed song is in very poor taste. The fact that it isnt done now is a good thing.
