I’m in the uk. Boys are in school until 18 unless they are in yeshivish schools and finish at 15 and then go to yeshiva katana (no chol). Is that what Mesivta is or does mesivta have chol? Keep reading about it and wondering what it is!

It may be community-dependent. Here we call grades 1-6 yeshiva ketana or just plain yeshiva, some places call 1-8 that. Grades 7-12 for boys only is called mesivta and includes limudei chol. Many schools don't use the term mesivta at all. Post HS yeshiva we call Beis Medrash and it's only kodesh unless it's Yeshiva University, Touro or Chofetz Chaim, which are joint yeshiva/college programs that allow young men to study for a profession while being kovea ittim.

Mesivta is UK yeshiva ketana, sort of.
It's the step after grade school.
In us, we end grade school in grade 8.

In Lakewood and yeshivish oot high schools "mesivta" is the equivalent of "high school", which is 9th - 12th.
It may or may not have English.
Sometimes 12th grade us already part of "beis medresh" (that is, post high school).
