I once ate an easy recipe of hot dogs cut up with cubed potatoes. It was made in a pot with some sauce- maybe tomato sauce?
Does anyone know how this simple dish is prepared?

I used to do ketchup and duck sauce. Delicious. (I no longer eat hotdogs)

This is how I do it:
Saute onions in a bit of oil
Add salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, sliced franks. Saute for about 5 minutes. Add cubed potatoes & cover with water. Cook till potatoes are soft.

Tomato sauce, watered down, with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powders, cumin, and paprika. Add potato chunks and hot dog slices and cook until sauce is thickened.

Do you cover the pan when cooking the potatoes?

I do it in the Betty Crocker covered.
I don’t add water or tomato sauce though.
Delicious!

Cover the pot. Don’t cover the potatoes with water. The onions and hot dogs will end up with some liquid on the bottom. Add a couple of tablespoons, at most 1/4 cup of water. Cover. Mix to make sure it’s not sticking. If it’s sticking a lot add a drop of water. Covering the potatoes with water will give you a mushy mess.

I've been doing it the way I do ever since, for many years, and never get a mushy mess or the hot dogs & onions on the bottom.
Comes out great every time.

I chop the potatoes and onion into smaller pieces. I sauté the onions in oil first til golden then throw potatoes in. When potatoes are a bit crusty I throw in sliced up hot dogs. Cover with water and add consommé and pepper. It’s SO good.

I do it in the oven. Cut up hot dogs and potatoes, slice onions, put it all into a pan, splash with oil, and then shake on paprika, garlic, onion and let it bake for a long time. It will get so yummy and crunchy! If you’re short on time, you can toss in canned potatoes instead of fresh.

Hot dogs need just a couple minutes of cooking time, otherwise they get bloated. Potatoes need longer. Cook the potatoes and add hot dogs the last few minutes.

Thanks everyone!
I sort of did a little bit of each person’s instructions!
It came out very good!
I hope I remember what I did for next time… if not, I’ll just come back to read this thread!
