We were invited for lunch to someone who lives more than a mile away. Looking for ideas of things that do well in the heat. We can put it in our stroller basket.

I usually ring fruit, salad, or a baked item. Due to the heat, I would recommend not grit or salad this week. Baked items should hold up ok. (Chocolate chip cookies might get melty)
A candy platter or wine would work.
Alternatively, drop off something before Shabbos.

Ask your hostess what to bring. If it’s easier, drop it off before Shabbos.

I drop off before shabbat. Usually cut up fruit or a salad for the meal.
Or a bottle of wine

This.
Or chocolate if you can drop off before Shabbos .
As per previous threads on this topic, anything else unless specifically requested by the hostess runs the risk of being not only unappreciated, but really annoying your hosts. There are some that also have a problem with wine and chocolate but IMVHO, those two are your safest bets.

I try and drop it off before shabbos. I would usually ask the host if there's something I can make or bring. Obviously if they ask for something I would do that, but if they don't, I usually would send chocolate. I feel like you can't go wrong with chocolate. And even if they don't want the chocolate, it can be regifted easily.

Wine or something for the actual meal that the host asked for.
