Which is appropriate with this dress? I much prefer a shell but if that's totally out, I'll go with a cardigan...but can someone link a picture of the general type of cardigan I should try to find?

If you care (not saying you should..) I think the look is a straighter style jumper with a short, cropped cardigan over.....

I'd wear it with a three quarter sleeve white shell underneath. Though maybe that's more Israeli style.

That's such an interesting suggestion. I wouldn't have thought a pattern would go, but I hear it, maybe.
How bout a colored tee/shell...like light blue or green?

Op it’s very cute, tiered is actually quite trendy. You can definitely wear it with a ribbed white shell, clunky sneakers and jewelry, you’ll look adorable.

It's a cute dress and a cardigan would for sure take away from the look, making it look like a top and skirt more than a dress.
A black and white striped tee IMO wouldn't match. I think a white shell would look best
