7 months old. She recently started making "scratching" motions around the area of her right ear, gong back and forth for a good couple of seconds every do often. I s don't see any rash or bumps there. Been to the Dr recently and no ear infection. What could this be?
I'm thinking it could be some kind of soothing technique? It happens often as she's falling asleep but not exclusively.

My baby did this at about 10 months, which was then peak covid time so I couldn't get him to the doctor. I put garlic oil drops and finally went to an ent at NYU a few weeks later. He said there was evidence of a past ear infection but nothing current. Baby still tugged at ear and never stopped for a good few years. I finally chalked it up to a soothing technique.

My son does it still at 15 months. I think it's a soothing technique. Is the baby teething? Dr told me ithey rub their ears whenever anything bothers them especially when they teeth.

I've heard of that but it's not always when she's tired

Mine too. Babys can feel discomfort by their ear from teething so they rub it.
