Does the school provide lunch? Do you have to pay for it? How much do they charge? Do they charge per meal or month?
Does your child go home for lunch? Are you allowed to send lunch?
When I was living in NY, the school my dd went to provided lunch, but I had to pay for it. I don't remember the exact price, but it was less than $3 a meal. It might be more now . I only had to pay per meal. Most of the time, I sent her with home lunch. Most of the girls ate the school lunch, though. My sons school, it was free, or they probably just added to the tuition . I don't remember. The other one was in a playgroup and I sent him lunch everyday.
Here, most of the kids go home for lunch, but I don't do that, for a number of reasons. They provide lunch for them in school that I have to pay for, of course. The only problem is, they charge per month. They count how many days there are and if I know that they are not going to be there a certain day and give a discount because it's for 4 kids. If they are absent because they're sick or something, I have to pay for it . Before pesach they charged for one extra day to help pay the workers clean up for pesach. I fought with them, but I lost . The cost of the lunch before the discount is, (dollars) a little under $5 for the big ones and $4 for the little ones. And my kids hardly eat anything. I know, I could take them home for lunch, but that's really not an option because I need to be here .

My kids' school is also monthly, and my son has been begging for school lunch. I don't really want him to have it, but he claims it's for social reasons, and I may give in because of that. But I told him to wait until after Y'T. There's no way I'm paying for October!

Our lunch is included in the tuition, and the food is amazing. I'd happily eat there. The tuition is very high, so I don't consider it a perk.

Lunch is included. However they get bread and milk and American cheese and peanut butter daily. Because of the allergic kids, those things are in the corner. Then, on the tables they get every day a soup which grosses kids out, and ‘something’ such as French fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, you get it? No protein whatsoever. And then the girls make fun when I send cut up cantaloupe with my kids, so now they refuse that too.

We're very lucky. The school gives breakfast. lunch, and snack, no extra charge. It's so nice to not have to worry if my child's hungry.

my DD just started kindergarten this passed tuesday in a big school so naturally I sent her lunch like I've been doing hte passed 2 years since she's been inplaygroup, only she came home iwht it not eaten cuz she told me that her morah gave her lunch of chulent and carrots and bread. so I call the school and they told me that they give out lunch, and if I am eligible, I can get it at a reduced rate but if not then its $400 for the year, about $2.30 a meal. I wont even apply since I'm not in the guidelines but it would be nice to have been givne the choice to make home lunches. however, since my DD seems to eat and be fulfilled with the school lunches I will jsut go with it, although its another expense I really could do without. if the majority of the class is eating school lunch I want her to also

yo'ma--7? Is that converted to American money? My kids is $4.50 and I think that is high. It is a slice of pizza or some pasta, a little salad or fruit and water bottle. My kids would be so hungry if I ordered it that I'd still end up sending supplements.

well my kids eat cold fleishic every day bc the lunches in the school they go to are not kosher and they are the only ones in the school. at least u have the options to pay for a nice lunch for the kids.

My kids school doesn't do lunches, so we send lunch. Your food also costs money, and it takes time every morning or evening to make up lunchboxes, so I think it can be worth it.
$2.30 a meal sounds very reasonable. you are also paying for workers time etc

I made a mistake w/ my division , it's a little under $5. They do get a full meal.
The biggest downside is they have fleishig 4/5 days of the week and my dd is now waiting 6 hours, so she has to eat a little later than everyone else when she comes home. They want milichig for supper and I want them to eat at a certain time b/c I want them in bed at a certain time.

I do have to mention that they are very good. If a child doesn't like the food, they give them something else. My ds told me that he didn't eat the food they gave (Lahm-El-Gine), so they gave him waffles w/ dulce de leche .
