I'm just curious because I pmed someone recently to give her info on something she asked for in a thread. I didn't know if the info should be posted on the public forum, so I Pmed her.
I can see she has been active on that thread and others, but she has not read my message.
I have other pms that I sent to other active posters in the past which have gone unread. So I'm wondering if some people disable theirs?
When I get a pm, it pops up as an alert, plus I get an email notification.

I'm not aware of any way to disable private messages. Are you?

If it's not the type of info that would be fine to share online why would she share it with you?
ETA why the hug?

Do you mean you think she hasn’t read your pm because you don’t see two blue checks near your message? Because there is a privacy setting on WhatsApp where you can make it impossible to see if they’ve read your messages or when they’re online…

You must be from the instant-everything generation. Not everyone is surgically attached to their phone or is willing or able to answer every message the moment it's sent. Some people have lives outside their phones or computers.

She's referring to this site, not whatsapp.

They might be reading it in their email and not opening on here.

Actually, no. I am from the older people on Imamother.
I sent some of these messages months ago. One or two are from last year.
One person is a friend, and has communicated with me in the past I can see she hasn't read the last two messages I sent her. I chalked it up to her not wanting to respond for some reason.
But then I saw it happen with other people.

I just wasn't sure.
It was a random question someone asked where she could buy something.
I responded with the name of someone who might be able to help her. It wasn't private, but just wasn't sure if I should post the name in the public forum.

This, I do it all the time and can't always get on the site to respond and sometimes I forget to...

Maybe their inbox is full? Or they read it in their email and kept it as unread here on the site so they'd remember to write back?

Sometimes the system shows a message as unread when it has been read, though that doesn't explain a lack of response. Maybe some people don't think they need to respond? In any case, if a few weeks go by and a pm still shows as unread, I delete it.

You responded to her? Oh I thought you said in your op that you were the one asking the question
If you answered her question, whats the problem?

No problem. Just it shows it was not read.
And I have other unread pms there from way longer. So I just wondered how it works, and if perhaps some people disable it.

I will often read a pm in email. And specifically not click on it in the message box, to hopefully remind me to go in later when I have the headspace to write a reply and then sometimes I forget.
