I just bought a new Bosch stainless steel dishwasher.
I slowly fill it with milchig dishes and wash it every few days. The dishwasher smells terribly in between runs.
What I don't understand is my old dishwasher that was all plastic, didn't smell at all.
Is there anything with the metal tub and can I put something on the bottom between washes to help the smell?

Don’t leave dirty dishes inside overnight.
Make sure you clean out and wash the filter every week.

Sounds like you may be better off just running it more often. I know it may feel wasteful to run if it’s not 100% full but letting dirty dishes sit in a closed area for several days is just asking for smells as the bacteria is just growing more and more. If it makes you feel better the newer dishwashers are very efficient with water and electricity so it shouldn’t cost you too much more in utilities.
