no food in this cabinet. Where could they have come from? There are no ants in the ones with food.

Sorry OP!

I don't see a lot of logic to the ants in our house either. But the liquid ant bait has been amazing at getting rid of them.

I'm having that too. An exterminator told us it's the most common this season and not much to do for it.

I suspected it was cleanliness but my super clean Moroccan neighbor had them too

It's almost impossible to keep ants out of your house especially in certain locations and during certain seasons.

My parents hired an exterminator on a contract and they would do something to the exterior of the house to prevent the ants from getting in.

But periodically my mother would go into the kitchen and find a trail of ants which had located a crumb or a streak and they would call the service and no ants for awhile.

It really has nothing to do with cleanliness because there is always going to be something an ant will find just like roaches often have nothing to do with being clean because roaches will find something to eat .

It's important to clean with a good detergent (I have one that makes ants disappear), because they mark their routes with scent, so the others will follow, even if there is nothing there.

What they like is sugar, sugar water.

What they dislike is cinnamon, lemon juice, and a few other types of scent.

I was quite successfull with cleaning their traces and laying out cinnamon (yes, it looks rather messy, but it helps), but you could also find other essences, etheric oils that are not so visible.
