Wondering if anyone had a situation like this. Purchased a very expensive electronic item. When I purchased, on the page it said free returns but sold through a 3rd party seller, so I purchased. Fast forward, product not as described, doesn’t work well, not happy. I scheduled a return and on the page of return instructions I see it says 20% to 50% restocking fee plus I need to pay return shipping. I was never in a situation like this and would never purchase this item if I new this esp since it was so expensive (close to 1k) I have Amazon prime. Anyone know if there’s anything to be done? Can I fight with Amazon? Or my credit card company? Is it worth it? Would appreciate any responses. Thank you

Can you screenshot the original offer where it says free returns and then reach out to the seller?
If your not happy with the sellers response, you can follow up with Amazons customer service.
But can you first verify if there was some misunderstanding. Did the free returns apply to select 3rd party sellers and not all?

If you can’t figure it out with Amazon check what sort of policy your credit card has about returns.

Right under the listing price it says free returns. When you scroll down it says shipped and sold through a third party. I didn’t think I had to search their page and read all their fine print how they charge all those fees for any returns and pay return shipping. I thought free returns, means free returns backed by Amazon. After reading this fine print, I started reading reviews on them as a seller on Amazon, and so many ppl were complaining about the same thing, how they are charging up to 50% restocking fees and return shipping etc etc. all one star. That’s why I’m wondering if I can fight it at all or I’m left with lost money. I never thought I had to check the sellers fine print for returns, I assumed I have prime I was backed by the standard fee returns for full returns.

I guess I’ll try chatting with them. Was wondering if I had hope before I start chatting and complaining. I rarely make returns and usually am satisfied with what I buy. So upset.

Usually by chatting them they waive all the fees for you. I've had it where they even said I can keep the product and get a full refund.

You definitely have hope. Especially if you see others have complained about it. My guess is the Amazon rep will fix it all up.

Follow up- I reached out to them today and they said I’ll get the full reimbursement with no fees “based on the nature of the issue”. I just told them exactly how it is. Purchased item, product did not work as advertised and very disappointed that I’m only seeing now after reading the return fine print about all the fees. I took screenshots of the conversation and confirmed again in the chat box that I would get all my money back. Now I have what to show just in case I don’t get all my money back (just because this seller has lots of complaints about not giving back money.) Never made a return through a third party seller, or returned an item this expensive, so have no idea how it works. Bhhhh so relieved. Amazon may have taken into consideration our long time membership, many many orders, and rarely returns. Who knows, I guess it’s always worth a try to contact them first.

Amazon likes to make prime customers happy. I would have been very surprised if they didn’t fix it. It always pays to chat with the rep. I’ve chatted with them when they tried telling me free returns needed to be via Whole Foods or kohls only and the rep happily gave me a free return label.
