I dont understand the finances of going to the country/bungalow colonies.
Do no women who go, work?
How can people take off months from work?
The only family I know who go are self employed and bh make enough through the year to be able to take off.
But what about the rest of the families?

I go upstate. The women in my colony either work on school schedules (teachers therapists etc), work remote, go in a couple days a week or don't work.

For everyone saying remote work, what about 30, 40 years ago? Im in my 40s and people have been going upstate for decades.
All women cant be working remotely or be self employed.
Are there really that many women who arent working, in today's financial climate?

There weren't that many working women back then. (Not talking about teachers that have the summer off.)
And yes, many many women today don't work.
I also know many women that work remotely for the summer and travel in once a week or so.

We stayed in Brooklyn when I was a kid because my parents worked. You don’t go. We had a few day camps that were full.

I guess it depends on community.
Where I grew up, the majority of mothers did work. Not all teachers either.
And what do you mean "wont" work? They dont need to or bshita they wont work?

For the most part they either don't work or they are teachers who are off for school holidays.
With the prevalence of working from home, it is theoretically possible for many women to work at fairly high level careers.
My mother was a teacher - we went away for the summer. My father came for the weekend for the most part except for the last two weeks in August when we would actually go on a vacation somewhere else - a road trip somewhere typically in the car.

I work remotely from the bungalow colony. I’m super grateful that my boss allows it.
I feel like I’m missing out tons because I don’t step out of my bungalow before 4-5:00 and I have to go sleep at a decent hour in order to get up early. So I enjoy my afternoons and weekends. But I’m definitely not “Part” of the group.

Ditto.
In my colony (small, about 30 families) about 70% of the women are not SAHMs. A lot of the women work in schools and have off during the summer. Other ladies have jobs that they can do remotely (like me).
I feel like there a threads like this every year.
I happen to love going to the country, and its important to me for various reasons. So we figure out a way to make it work.
My mother a"h was a social worker, and when we were little she took off for two months so we could go to the country! I have no idea how she managed that!

I hope you at least get a lunch break so you can take a walk or go swimming!

Growing up, we went upstate, and my mother was a SAHM for a while. Then she worked from home for a catering business, so she just relocated upstate and worked around the daily day camp schedule. Then she started working for someone who also went to our bungalow colony and he knew exactly how much his family values the bungalow colony so he made it work for my mother- sent her up with a computer, printer, and fax machine. Then she switched to a new job, and used vacation days for Thursday-Monday, and went back to the city for Tuesday-Wednesday. And then after that she started going less because basically no kids were going upstate with her anymore, we were all married or in camp. But yeah, she made it work as long as she could.
I definitely regret that my kids won't get the bungalow colony experience. It was a foundational part of my childhood.

The majority of women I know/knew who go/went upstate were stay at home moms.
1 mom is self employed and summer there is a lighter load. She travels in as needed.
2 are teachers and take jobs upstate in camps in order to afford taking their children.
But the other 20 women are stay at home moms.
I stay home and work 365. 😊 Never went upstate for the summer.

It's a typo
Meant to say that they "don't" work.

How are people affording it? I heard it’s $8,000 for 4 weeks for a bare basic dilapidated bungalow… never mind higher end ones…am I the only one that struggles to cover basics every month….

No you aren't the only one who is struggling but there are plenty of people who aren't struggling as well.

I BH have a decent income but common sense doesn’t allow me to spend this on a bungalow.
