the Henna on her hand is gone.
Not a BY school. No rule against them. She's had them before (other years).
And it's not removable. There are ways to help it fade faster, but not get rid of it totally.

I’d put a big piece of gauze over it

It's the pricipal who won't let her back in.

After she was told to remove it, knowing she can't get it off, she went in the next day with it covered. Principal called her over as soon as she came in. She showed her hand to the principal showing it was covered and was told "it must be removed. You need to go home".

Did you tell them it can’t be removed and she’ll keep it covered while it fades?

What is the henna from? Is it from a Sephardic simcha?

I find this so inappropriate as Henna is actually a tradition for some Jews.

Does she have a patterened one for no reason or from a simcha?

Yes. Multiple times. Principal sent me a link on how to remove them. Many of the ideas say to repeat daily until it's gone-so clearly they are not simply removable. We tried a few, I took pictures of her hand and sent them via email. Explained what we tried. I'm waiting for a response, but not holding out much hope. DD is enjoying herself hanging out with her sister at the school her sister works in.
Oh, and I asked for her work to be sent home, and the response I got was the list of ways to remove the henna Banging head

We went to a Fair and someone was doing them. DD likes them and has had them before, so I let her get one. It makes her happy, so I figured "why not?"

Hmmm in that case they are probably not happy that it's like a short-term tatoo type of thing.
I understand where they are coming from in such a case. They probably don't want it to become a "thing" in the school.

If it were the classic henna circle from a simcha, I'd be very upset with their reaction.

She's had them before. In school. And while I do understand them not being happy about it, as there is no rule against it, a warning and/or making her cover it should have been enough. And believe me, we are "out of the box" enough that people aer not following what we do LOL

I agree that it's a bit of a drastic punishment for sure. You are right, a warning and asking for it to be covered should be sufficient.

I'm wondering if she has been warned about it before? How old is DD?

She hasn't been warned before. I truly believe that the principal has no idea what a henna is. DD is in 8th grade and graduating in a few weeks.

My question for the principal (and teacher who reported her to the principal) is "if dd Chas veshalom goes off the derech, would it be because I allowed her to get a henna or because she learned that having a henna is a good reason to get kicked out of school and not learn torah?"

I was nuetral on the thread where the girls in lakewood who got drivers licenses were kicked out and not allowed to graduate. My perspective has now changed. Is it really worth risking a girls yiddishkeit for this? Because teens take these things very seriously and stuff like this can damage them.

If she was never warned, then it's really wrong of the principal.
You're saying that when DD covered it she still got on trouble?
That's so wrong of the principal.

is this the first time se did somehing that is too close to the line....or over the line for this school?
I know many sephardic and askenaz students...the BY type dont get hennas for fun....its only at simchos, and no school gave them or their ashkenaz freinds a hard time for it.
Also the ones they do at simchos dont take weeks to come off. Maybe a few days. This sounds more like a temp tatoo.

Schools dont have rules abt tatoos, they also dont have rules about drinkin, motorcycles, 2nd peircing.....they dont expect their girls to do it.

OP said its not a BY.
And schools definitely have rules about 2nd piercings and drinking alcohol.
