I have no idea how I’m gonna buy my daughter uniforms and they need to be ordered by early June.

I can’t do hand me downs because it’s a new uniform for this year and I can’t order elsewhere (cheaper) because it needs to be monogrammed.

Uniforms are expensive, just a vent. I understand why they’re important and appreciate but it’s just so tough

Hugs. Size up and only buy 2 l. Uniforms save money in the long run. They last long.

Yes I always size up. I only buy 2. But that’s 2 sweaters. $80. Two shirts $50.

And that’s only 2 shirts which may not be enough. That’s a lot of money.
But yes it usually lasts the whole year so thank G-d for that

The skirts we have they are the same as last year. The sweater she wears daily we need 2. Shirts 2 is really really pushing it, but that’s all I can do.

Isn't there a uniform gemach? Many schools have a family in the school that takes care of the uniform gemach.

Order two of each and then can you find any mothers from your kids school who would pass down their stuff so that you have some extras?

Edited: I didn’t realize the school changed the uniforms. That sucks.

Schools should not just change their uniform. Change one thing at a time. One school I know changed their sweatshirt to a sweater. But the skirts/shirts were the same so it was easier to manage financially. If they want to change something else- give a heads up so I don't stock for 2 years now. Say "starting fall 2026 the skirt will be..." or allow a transition year or two where both are OK and make it clear that by fall 2026 only X will be OK.

Schools should also avoid monogrammed items like shirts. Yes it looks so much nicer in pictures but it's a waste. And a huge financial drain. Maybe only the school sweater but not every single shirt!

Schools should also allow similar items as ok. At least for polo shirts and also pants for boys- can they wear any "uniform style"? I know one school that writes in the rule book only landsend pants are ok. But they are fine that kids wear old navy, target, children's place... half the price of landsend. And fits boys who may be bigger/smaller than others. Same with polo's. Almost everyone wears children's place over landsend. And no one can tell easily.

I am grateful for uniforms. Simplified my mornings and is cheaper in the long run- if the school does it right. Otherwise imagine girls wanting something new or whatever this week's fashionable item is.

Can you get the fake collars and see if someone will monogram them for you? They're soo much cheaper than full shirts

How are uniforms cheaper in the long run? For high school, I can understand that. But my daughter is starting nursery next year and I was flabbergasted to find out that her uniform will cost about $55 for 1 outfit. I have never spent that much on one day's clothing for her. At least BH we have a gemach where the prices are cheaper.
How is it fair for schools to insist on monogrammed shirts?

My daughter started wearing uniform this yr. I hardly bought her winter clothes and so far for summer she fits majority of last yrs summer clothes and bought only 2 new items on sale.
My kids who aren't wearing uniform I have through out the year had to pay more on seasonal clothes.

Sometimes a school instituting a uniform may be receptive to helping you buy a new one on condition you donate it to their gemach they need to start when you're done.
I wonder if your school would consider such a request by you in the face of hardship.

I really don’t want to ask for tzedaka. I work there and would be uncomfortable. Also, if I had extra I’d hand down to my next dd who will need it in a year

Also the school doesn’t have their own Gmach a few people in the community have Gmach or get donations, so it really has nothing to do with the school

Ask the school just how serious they feel about the monograms. If you can get a generic for half the price then go for it.

I think the monogram thing is so wasteful and frustrating. I've had years where it mattered less though. And are they really inspecting the shirt collars? Do they have nothing better to do?

This.
And I’m in Baltimore and when the uniform gemach didn’t have they gave a coupon for a large percentage off at the uniform store.

Yes they want this specific one. It’s not the shirt that’s monogrammed it’s the sweater. But the shirt is very very specific and I’m not sure I can find that somewhere else.
