Stores usually pay for the upkeep as part of the overhead that comes from renting space in a shopping center. |
That's an interesting idea. Try to get the place sponsored by the stores on the street. Each store gets advertising rights in a bathroom stall or by the sink area etc.

Shopping centers generally have bathrooms.
The avenue, is not a Shopping center owned by one person.

This is not a shopping center like a mall, it’s a few blocks that have lots of stores. Most don’t let you use their bathroom unless you purchase something and the bathrooms are usually filthy.

This. It should be off 13 in a basement for cheaper rent. I would love to have something like that since I use public transit to do errands in bp & I have a baby.

It might be illegal to charge for rest rooms
I don't remember the details,
In around 1900's or so public rest rooms would charge for stalls and urinals would be free. So women began to lobby that public restroom stalls should also be free. As a result many public restrooms disappeared from the streets.
In around 1990 or so some Co. had an idea that they would put small stalls on different street corners of Manhattan. They would be self cleaning and paid to use. The city turned them down. One of the reasons was because they would charge.
I don't remember all of it, but it might not be so simple to put paid toilts on the city streets.

Honestly I wouldn’t pay. It most likely won’t be clean enough for my standards anyway. I still will clean it before allowing my kid to sit so what do I gain?
Been on 13th ave when my toddler needed the bathroom. We just stopped for ice cream and used the restroom there. Ended up paying $5 but was for ice cream and she was so happy.

Also consider stroller, bubby cart, or baby carrier rentals, and locker rentals so people don't have to shlep all of their purchases all day.
If you can get each store to sponsor a certain amount it can be free for entry, and will make a profit from the amenities (rentals, snacks, vending machines with diapers, wipes, pads, first aid, stain stick, motrin, umbrella, water bottles etc.).

I’m from oot and when I’m in BP for shopping, I don’t have a car. I would LOVE lockers!! But most people shopping there have strollers so I doubt many people need lockers. For bathrooms, I go to the library or Ice Cream House, or a pizza shop in a pinch. I always buy a drink or something if I use the store bathroom. Ice Cream House is always clean and private, so I usually eat lunch and supper there if shopping all day!

When I have a nursing baby I would definitely pay for such a service, I hate asking sales people to use their dressing rooms. I would also use it if my children need the bathroom. I go in to pizza stores usually but the bathrooms are really gross.

Back on this thread!
Boro Parkers, is 42nd street central enough?
I reached out to the mayor to see if govt can fund this
I want it to be wither 1. free entrance or 2. metered for small fee
and the profit should come in through ads running on a screen
thanks for those who added their suggestions

Oh I see. I thought we were talking about a strip mall, where all the retail stores rent from a single owner.

Or maybe they'd do something like create a store membership club for a small annual fee that gives you store discounts plus free use of this nuce bathroom facility.
