How quickly do you go through it??
It’s so expensive and I feel so guilty that I need to buy it so often but it goes so quickly. I buy the target brand usually so I’m not even buying the most expensive one. It’s about once a month I think that I need to replace it

Are you sure you aren’t using too much? Many people use too much.

I used to use less and my laundry didn’t smell clean. I have a machine that doesn’t have the thing in the middle and spin, it kind of just agitates and I think my laundry doesn’t get as clean without more detergent

I don’t want to sound harsh, but I’ll ask.. are you putting in what the instructions say? Bc I’ve seen this with my eyes a few years ago.. I was also going through detergent so fast and then I realized I was using way too much- like a capful for medium and large loads and 3/4 capful for small loads.. then I saw online a person bring interviewed by a detergent manufacturer and the person said you only need like 3-4 tbsp for large and 2-3 tbsp for small-medium loads.. I’ve seen such a difference and the clothes started coming out much better.. then I asked an appliance man shortly after and he said that it’s true.. And since then we haven’t gone to full cup detergents sorth..

If you're concerned about the smell, maybe switch to a different brand that smells more strongly?
I use Ariel powder Detergent. It's quite cheap, I only use a couple of tbsp per load, and my clothes smell good.

Oh maybe I’ll try. But will that help me save money in the long run? Aren’t those expensive??
I love the scent of my detergent (target) but I have to use a lot

Your laundry isn't cleaner just because it smells of detergent. On the contrary - it probably isn't washing out properly.

This and your nose gets used to the scent so you shouldn't expect to smell it

Smell doesn't mean clean. It probably means you are wasting detergent).
I would see what cycle you are using- if it isn't getting clean I would try for a longer cycle.
I buy bigger bottles. So using 1 per month is very different than 1 small bottle...
How big is your family? So a family of 3 will use a lot less than one of 13.
Do you do a lot of dirty activities? If you go to the gym that is an extra load...
Wash rags over paper towels?
(I don't use paper towels all that much so I wash a lot of rags and towels).

They smelled yucky when I didn’t use that much…
Could this be because it doesn’t spin? It doesn’t have the thing in the middle to spin, it just agitates. Could this kind of machine not clean as well?

Often we think "yucky" when it doesn't smell chemically. Just like a room that had 409 or lysol sprayed smells cleaner even if only 1 shelf was sprayed and the floor is sticky.
I realized this when I switched to free and clear detergent. No chemical smell ever. It doesn't have a "fresh" smell that comes from chemicals. It has a more "empty" natural smell.

It’s possible your machine needs to be cleaned
You can search online how to do it
