On call subbing

Anyone doing something like that? Taking care of things at home but if school needs a sub you come in? Please tell me your experience and if it helped you financially.

I don't do it but know people who did.
They did it because they wanted a mini job yo get out but only when it works for them. they didn't want to be committed to a job.

Like an empty nester bubby who wants the freedom to travel for family simchas.

Subbing doesn't pay so well and if you're only doing a few hrs A week, its not a lot. But its something if its just to make a little extra cash and a a sippuk thing to add to your flexible schedule

I'm not doing it but my school has 2 teachers who taught a few years but couldn't continue full time due to big families. Now they sub on call. They can say if they're available that day or week... sometimes they do 6 week subbing for maternity leave. One said it was hard because she got called almost every day before pesach and they were offering nice compensation because they were so desperate that week. But if u know when to say no and are usually available, it can be a nice flexible job.
