I was just reading this story in Yechiel Spero's A Touch of Warmth
In the town of Telshe, in 1940, the men had already been murdered. Now the women and little children were being marched towards their death. As they passed by a shul, suddenly a five year old boy, HYD, ran in and grabbed piles of seforim, tefillin, whatever he could find and came out carrying them. He explained that since he is just a child and hasn't had a chance to learn or daven or wear tefillin "...I just want to take all these mitzvos up to Shamayim with me."
They were murdered on the 7th of Elul.

Beautiful story. Makes sense however that it was 1942 and not 1940...
