I have a son named pesachya and it’s an Aramaic name, another name for mordechai hatzadik in the gemara

My son is Psachya as well—he’s an Adar baby and we wanted something different than the more common Adar names. We call DS Sachi. 🥰

How does Moriya pronounce her name? I have met non-Jewish women named Moriah pronounced MOE-RYE-UH...

My daughter went to school with a Bunya.
I knew a Dusya growing up.
Names like Babshe, Mamale, Mamtzie sound to me like they were nicknames that became so ingrained that future generations forgot the original names and named after their ancestors' nicknames.

I know a Maidy. It is definitely a nickname but absolutely noone uses her real name ever and I'm sure most people don't even know what her real name is. I wonder if in a few generations there will be a slew of Maidys because her descendants will think that it was her real name.
