1 child
Married 6 years (infertility)

310k in savings
500k in stocks
1.125 million apartment (still in mortgage)
120k in retirement (I think? my husband has that information)
12k in college savings for child so far

no debt

No car (NYC)

For context, we are high income bracket (my husband makes ~350k a year and my income fluctuates). My husband came from money so he was put through Ivy league college and medical school with no debt. His parents also gift us about 68k a year (whatever the tax gift limit is).

I include that so people know this is not a normal situation. We are lucky. It wasn't "hard work" that got us here, it was immense privilege.

Skip this thread if it’s too TMI for you lol.

How much savings/ debt do you have?
Do you own a house?
Do you have kids, if yes, how much?
And how long were you married for?

Savings:
my own personal from my own money, not much because I keep spending it on 'extras' for myself and the kids. So around £250
Bar Mitzvah savings for our upcoming Bar Mitzvah which is in 1.5 years iyH around £3k but we'll have over double by then iyH.
No other savings because we spent it all on the house and now every penny goes towards our very expensive tuition (one in particular is double the amount of the norm per month)

Debt: all house debt , which is 'mindful' we recently finished a big extension so we have a large, beautiful house BH. Now we're in about £120k debt from it but £55k we might never need to pay back from my in laws BH. Dh is paying a lot back per month and hopes to take out a bigger mortgage in a year to pay back the rest.

We own our house BH (mortgage, but if we sold it we'd make at least £400k profit. Not that we're selling it...)

5 kids knH. Oldest 16, youngest, 2

We've been married for 17 years knH.

You don't need to respond here, but have you considered bankruptcy?

Only $35K or so is in credit cards. A little over $10k we still owe on our car, another $12k to taxes. The biggest chunk (over $80k) is tuition.

So bankruptcy wouldn't likely help us too much.

We B"H have over $1 million in savings plus investments. Unfortunately a lot of that money came from yerushas and we'd rather have the people in our lives than the money in the bank.

We own a house, but are still paying a mortgage. We bought the house 18 years ago when I was pregnant with our oldest. It's now falling apart so we're gearing up for a major renovation.

We're married 20 years with 3 children.
